Forecasting

The Forecasting module included in the Wholesale Distribution Suite (WDS™) for Microsoft Dynamics™ AX allows companies to have forward visibility to much better anticipate variations in demand that inevitably occur.

While forecasts are, by definition, never right; the key to fully realizing the benefit of a forecasting module is to minimize the amount of error in the forecast. The challenge to this can sometimes be that companies don’t have the time or expertise to dedicate to producing sophisticated statistical models.

MBS Dev has solved this problem by basing the Forecasting module on the work of statistical guru Jon Schreibfeder (a Microsoft consultant for inventory strategies). Over the past 20 years, Jon has helped over 1,000 companies improve their productivity and profitability through better inventory management. Jon has written many white papers and books specifically for distributors to help them increase efficiency, customer service and profitability with smart inventory management techniques based on statistical models designed to minimize forecast error.

MBS Dev has built-in these techniques to the Forecasting
module which allow distributors to make better decisions that help the reduce safety stocks and inventory levels while simultaneously increasing fill rates and customer satisfaction.

Forecasting module capabilities include:

  •  EOQ calculation and order quantity
  •  Weighted average calculation
  •  Six month average calculation
  •  Min / max order quantities
  •  Line point / order point
  •  Safety stock calculation by ABC codes and service levels
  •  Vendor lead time calculations
  •  Vendor minimums by dollar, quantity, volume and weight
  •  Supplier cycle days
  •  Smooth demand and what-if scenarios
  •  Automated purchase order creation and reviews
